Far Rockaway Urban Design Approved by PDC

The New York City Public Design Commission unanimously approved the preliminary design plans for Downtown Far Rockaway, a streetscape and urban design effort that will result in two central plazas, improved pedestrian safety and traffic, and over 130 new trees to this historic Rockaway district. Joined by local Councilmember Donovan Richards, maintenance partner Kevin Alexander from RDRC, and members both DOT and DDC, W Architecture and the team is one step closer to creating a vibrant public realm a reality in Far Rockaway. The approved plan will add nearly 30,000 square feet of public plaza space, as well as expand sidewalk throughout the district, while adding sorely lacking public amenities such as benches, LED street lights, WalkNYC Wayfinding signs, and free wifi. Thank you to the entire team for getting us past this milestone!
