Urban Sanctuary Takes Shape at 50 West Street

The Wall Street Journal just covered the 230' long pedestrian bridge and public plaza space at 50 West Street, calling it an urban sanctuary within lower Manhattan. W worked with Time Equities Inc. to design the public space around the base of the new 64-story condo tower. Beginning this fall, the new 24-hour-a-day privately owned public space will be revealed. WXY Architecture designed the 230' long pedestrian bridge over the six lanes of traffic on West Street that will connect to the plaza space. The plaza will become a gateway for thousands of pedestrians crossing the bridge each day. The 782' tall building designed by Helmut Jahn has curved walls and bends inward near the ground to accomodate the size of the plaza.
