We have been working with developer, Jon Bernstein, to create a sustainable waterfront park for the Greenpoint community while turning India Street and part of Java Street into a park utilizing a state of the art, porous paver system of storm water management. Along with Pelli Clarke Pelli Architects we have met with many members of the community, NYC Planning, and NYC Parks Department to address concerns and establish a set of visionary and attainable goals for the new public space.
The resulting design references the history and ecology of the site in a contemporary framework including piers, overlooks, and an accessible beach – all confoming to the Greenpoint-Williamsburg Waterfront Master Plan.
Christine Holowacz, co-chair of the Greenpoint Waterfront Association for Parks and Planning told Architect's Newspaper, “I love the open space on the project.”
