W Architecture joined the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation and the Girls Rider Organization at Riverside Park to celebrate Summer on the Hudson and the seasonal opening of the skate park. W will design a new skate venue for this legendary site with California Skateparks. Pioneering professional skateboarder Andy Kessler erected the iconic skate structures in the park nearly 20 years ago, including one of New York City's largest half-pipes. The kick-off meeting was attended by the Girls Rider Organization, parents of young skaters, friends of Andy Kessler, and professional skaters to discuss what they love about the park today and what they would like to see in the reconstruction of the park tomorrow. W is excited to dive into New York City's skate culture and to work with skaters and organizers to create an amazing skate park.
