Riverside Skate Park Breaks Ground

The skate park in Riverside Park on West 109th Street is now under construction! A groundbreaking ceremony was held on Saturday, June 8 at the park. The 23-year old skate park, designed and built by Andy Kessler, opened in 1996 and was NYC’s first serious skate park. W worked with the NYC Dept. of Parks and Recreation, California Skateparks, and local skaters to design the new skate park, which includes modern features and will better separate skaters by skill level. The new park features will include durable concrete and metal elements and have an 11′ deep bowl for advanced skaters and an open plaza area for beginning and intermediate skaters. We expect the park to be open sometime next spring and look forward to seeing the action.
