Last week, Barbara and the rest of the Van Alen Climate Council visited the Seattle region to learn about modern fisheries in the age of climate change. The council visited examples of sustainable fisheries, including farms encouraging oyster growth and the new waterfront, which encourages the life cycle of salmon. Ocean acidification in the Pacific Ocean was one of the major topics of discussion, and is a pressing issue for the region. The climate council’s purpose is to investigate these critical climate related issues and inspire change-making design projects that can improve the environment and promote healthy communities.
