W worked with NYC Parks to redesign Riverside Skate Park in Riverside Park on the upper west side. The project will reconstruct the existing skate park with new skate elements, fencing, benches, picnic tables, and landscaping. The original park was built by Andy Kessler – a legendary NYC skateboarder – in 1995 and included mini-half pipes, half pipes, ramps and rails. The renovation will add new features for skaters of all levels, with the existing wood and metal features set to be replaced by concrete items. A skate park plaza will be open at all times and has features 3 feet high or lower. There will also be a bowl with restricted access meant only for advanced skaters.
The skate park plaza is almost complete and will open soon, while construction continues on the bowl. The entire project is expected to be complete in September of this year.
