On Thursday, May 13, at 3 pm, David Ostrich, Senior Associate at W, and Mimi Hoang of n ARCHITECTS will be leading a virtual walkthrough of the Made in NY campus at Bush Terminal! W Architecture & Landscape Architecture has been working with the NYC Economic Development Corporation (NYC EDC) and n Architects to design the public waterfront space for the revitalized facility.
Since its founding over a century ago, Bush Terminal in Sunset Park, Brooklyn has been a center of industry and innovation. Today, the city-owned site is being transformed into a campus for the Made in NY initiative to support cornerstone industries of the city’s economy: fashion and film. On the virtual tour, you can learn how the historic campus is being repurposed to provide affordable space and support services to garment manufacturers, alongside facilities for film and television production, and an expanded public realm to open the campus to the community.
W’s landscape design will make the public space more pedestrian and family friendly. A main plaza will provide open space for events, sports, dining, and gathering with seating, grassy areas, shade trees and tables, as well as a fountain for children. History of the area will be kept alive through the seating design which resembles stacked pallets, and the design of the fountain composed of stacked duct banks sprouting water.
Register for the virtual tour here. The program is presented as part of NYC x Design 2021.
