Rockaway Village, a development by Phipps Housing, provides 1.7 million SF of development with much needed open space in the center of Far Rockaway Queens. Our plaza spaces create a link from the town center to the Long Island Railway and anchor a development of multiple residential buildings with ground floor retail.
The first phase provided a 25,000 square foot plaza with space for a future food kiosk and ample seating, bringing the plants of the seashore into the village center in sloped “wave” planters.
The second plaza will also provide seating and trees as DCP requires, adding sorely needed space for public programming and safe conditions for residents and businesses in the area. The development connects into the public space infrastructure W provided for the Far Rockaway streetscapes after the inundation of Hurricane Sandy.
