Winning Entry: Sixth Crossing at Dubai Creek Bridge Competition

Our team, led by FXFowle Architects, was selected by the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority as the winner of an international design competition. We collaborated with FXFowle to develop an environmentally conscious, site specific design for the bridge and landscape.

The Dubai Creek Bridge is located in a tidal landscape within viewing distance of the Ras Al Khor Wildlife Sanctuary, one of the few protected urban ecological areas in the region. It is also connecting two rapidly urbanizing areas of Dubai on either side of the creek.

The landscape concept grows from the dynamic movements of the tidal waters, flowing at right angles to the forces of the bridge above, and celebrating the rich existing habitat while revealing the opportunities to expand that landscape. The landscape will sustain, adapt, and reveal the forces of these tides and the delicate balance required with the surrounding human occupation.
