St. Patrick’s Island Named a ‘Great Place in Canada’ by the CIP

The Canadian Institute of Planners (CIP) named St. Patrick's Island a winner of its 2016 Great Places in Canada contest. After a rigorous review process by a jury of certified planning professionals, the Institute awarded St. Patrick's Island with the award this year. Back in August, the CIP invited Canadians to nominate a place in their community for the contest. The panel of jurors then reviewed the submissions and considered social, economic, and accessibility and safety factors, and elements such as design, culture history and landscape. The Institute noted that St. Patrick's Island has “quickly become a giant backyard playground for East Villagers, both long-time residents and newcomers, and a magnet for all Calgarians eager to explore the natural beauty and family-friendly amenities of this inner city island.”
