Invasive plant removal began this fall at Shore Parkway! Shore Parkway is a 1+ mile long landscape restoration project that we are working on with the NYC Department of Parks and Recreation near Jamaica Bay along the Belt Parkway. The beginning of the project included an in-depth ecological analysis and survey, which helped us determine which species were able to withstand Hurricane Sandy. This analysis informed our proposed planting plan – the restoration project consists of planting more than 4,000 native trees that are salt tolerant and hardy enough to withstand predicted sea level rise. We expect planting to begin next spring and looking forward to watching the new maritime forest grow along the Parkway!
