After nearly a decade of design and planning by W and the project team, Baltimore’s Inner Harbor Water Taxi Terminal and USS Constellation Museum started construction in the fall of 2020. The new building, designed by W, will provide access to the historic ship similar to the previous museum, but will be ADA (American Disabilities Act) compliant and more structurally sound. The museum and terminal are located on Pier 1, which is the epicenter of Baltimore’s harbor.
This progress photo shows the concrete slab, which was designed to be raised out of the floodplain – it will cure for the next month. Metal angles were attached to the slab and will hold the façade. Tapered beams are partially installed, and will hold vertical steel profiles that are erected from the slab up.
