W led one of 5 teams for the RiverWalk West Competition in Calgary, AB. W’s scheme, Braiding Waters: Navigating Stories of the Land for our Common Future, blends the natural geomorphology of the Bow River with the ongoing Indigenous history of Treaty 7 nations to weave a tapestry that unites the past, present, and future, with ecological reverence, cultural celebration, and community vitality.
Braiding Waters encourages a deeper connection between nature and community, closing the gap between lived experiences. Our story-centered design is a harmonious braiding that links the past, present, and future with a tapestry of ecological integrity, cultural reverence, and inclusive vitality, centering storytelling in placemaking by exploring the connections between place, stories, and belonging.
