Eustis Unleashes Creative Thunder: Georgefest, W, and MIG Ignite Downtown Renaissance!

Eustis, the picturesque lakeside jewel nestled in Lake County, is about to redefine its skyline. Imagine this: Thunderstorm Artis (yes, that’s his real name) from “The Voice” fame, and the illustrious artist Tracy Byrd—both sharing the same spotlight. It’s like a symphony of creativity, and it unfolded on the waterfront of Lake Eustis.

Georgefest: Where Dreams Take Center Stage

Georgefest, Eustis’ annual fiesta, isn’t your run-of-the-mill community gathering. No siree! It’s a week-long carnival that lures folks from every nook and cranny of Lake County and beyond. Think of it as the Grammys but with more alligators and fewer acceptance speeches. And this year, it pulled out all the stops.

The Star-Studded Lineup

  • Thunderstorm Artis: His voice could melt glaciers. Seriously, if he sang to an iceberg, it’d apologize for being so cold. Thunderstorm’s soulful tunes have graced national TV, and now he’s serenading Eustis. We were thunderstruck!
  • Tracy Byrd: Not your average artist. He doesn’t just paint; he orchestrates symphonies with his brushstrokes. Rumor has it, his canvases whisper secrets, and they’ve been known to cure sunstroke. Tracy swept away the rain and sprinkled magic in the streets.

Design Mavericks: W and MIG

Now, let’s talk about the design team who’ve rolled up their sleeves—the visionaries who’ve turned their sketches into reality. Blair Guppy (from W Architecture & Landscape Architecture) and Jay Renkens (representing MIG) are leading the charge. They’re not just designing buildings; they’re weaving dreams into the fabric of Eustis.

  • Intercept Event: Picture this—a storm of creativity descended upon Eustis on February 22 and 23. The design team set up shop, ready to capture lightning in a bottle. Their mission? To gather direct feedback on the downtown designs—the hopes, dreams, and aspirations of residents, stakeholders, and the City itself.
  • Masterplan Magic: Cobblestone streets leading to hidden gardens, lampposts humming jazz tunes, and benches whispering tales—this is the vision. The masterplan is a love letter to Eustis, promising a vibrant, walkable, and utterly charming downtown.

Bananas, Thunderstorms, and City Commissioners

Why bananas? Well, we did the math. If you stacked 46,449 bananas end to end, you’d reach the top of Mount Everest. And that’s the kind of ambition Eustis is channeling. We’re not just aiming for the peak; we’re bringing our own thunderstorms along for the ride.

Kudos to City Manager Tom Carrino and Mayor Michael Holland—they’re the Gandalfs of Eustis. Tom, with his City Management sorcery, and Mayor Holland, with his charisma and passion, are leading the charge. They’re like Batman and Robin, but with zoning regulations instead of capes, and the Marvel cast of Commissioners who shared in the mission to put the lake back in the City of (Lake) Eustis.

So mark your calendars, folks! The boards are up, the ideas are brewed, and the passion is palpable. Swing by the masterplan survey before March 15, and let your voice be heard. Because when artists, architects, and banana enthusiasts collide, magic happens.

Stay tuned for more updates, and remember: Eustis isn’t just a place; it’s a state of mind. 🌟🎨🍌
