The Brooklyn Daily Eagle broke the news that a former DUMBO hotel will be turned into housing for formerly homeless New Yorkers. The community board voted last Wednesday night to approve Breaking Ground’s plan to convert the 29-story tower at 90 Sands Street into 305 apartments for formerly homeless individuals and 202 permanently affordable apartments for tenants with a mix of income levels. W is working with the nonprofit Breaking Ground to redesign the privately owned public plaza, which is currently obstructed by large walls, fences, gates, and planters. Our proposal will create a more welcoming experience along Jay St, Sands St, and High St, encouraging interaction with the plaza and its amenities. Tenants of the building and visitors will be able to enjoy the added seating and green space.
