Hudson Street Redesign was awarded an International Downtown Association Pinnacle Award 2023 by the International Downtown Association (IDA). Located in downtown Manhattan, Hudson Street Redesign improves pedestrian, bicycle, and vehicular safety; and transforms the corridor into a boulevard that extends sidewalks up to five feet and adds new street amenities along seven blocks. The improvement plan also includes over 8,040 square feet of extensive planting areas, continuous tree pits, and permeable paving to improve stormwater collection, with integrated seating for 168 people, space for future sidewalk cafes, reconfigured sidewalks and pedestrian ramps, a protected bike lane, and new bike racks.
The IDA reflected on how Hudson Street Redesign “enhanced the pedestrian experience and created a safer environment for all users along the corridor. The Hudson Street Redesign restored the balance between pedestrians, cyclists and drivers by reallocating space from previously oversized traffic lanes.”
